Spring/ Summer ’13 Key Pieces.

Here we are, my final post about S/S ’13 trends, and this time it’s all about the ‘must have’ pieces for the season.

Granted, I haven’t included all of them, we would be here for a very long time, but I have pulled together items that will instantly freshen up your wardrobe, and bring it bang up to date!

The first key item is…

The Cropped Trouser – This length of trouser  has been doing the rounds for a few seasons, but it was very clearly here to stay and strutting its stuff for S/S ’13 fashion weeks. Anything goes, slim leg, wide leg, plain, printed or embellished. They look amazing with a heel, and anything from a tee- shirt to a blazer can be mixed with them. I love cropped trousers!!

From the cropped trouser to…

The Short – Maybe not for everyone, but the short is definitely making its presence felt again. They appeared in abundance, as occasionwear, daywear, casualwear, and also taking on the traits of sportswear. The hot pant can strike fear in the heart of anyone over the age of 30, (except Kylie) but the city short is a far more acceptable option…Thank the Lord!!

Now for…

The Pencil Skirt – This particular style of skirt hasn’t really been on trend for a while, but it is actually one of the most flattering shapes of skirt around, with most body shapes managing to pull it off. Incredibly feminine and sexy, you can’t go far wrong. Lets hope it sticks around for a while!

My next key piece can definitely turn a seemingly simple, unexciting outfit into something ‘wow’.

The Item Coat or Jacket – These little beauties were showing up left, right and centre. Cropped, oversized, printed, embellished, sheer or full length; the one thing these eye-catching necessities have in common is their ability to make the ordinary, extra ordinary. I for one will be looking to get my hands on one or two of them!!

You may be wondering where the dresses are? Fear not, here comes the key dress shape for the summer.

The Shift Dress – Yes, I think you would be hard pushed to find a designer who didn’t feature a shift dress somewhere in their collection. This classic shape was working hard. Belted, sleeved, sleeveless, patchwork, sheer, print or plain. I challenge you not to be able to find the right one for you.

My final key item is brought to you through gritted teeth. This is mainly because I am far too old, and not as toned as is required to pull the trend off! Oh how I wish I was 18! More of that in my next post.

Not so much a ‘key item’, more a ‘key area’. I’m sure this will be music to your ears, it’s …

The Midriff – Yay, so happy about that! I will be avoiding this like the plague. I think you have to know when to accept defeat, and I’m hold my hands up I’m well and truly defeated! Amazing as these models look, I think there are very few of us past teenage years, who can really rock a bare midriff. I’m very happy to be proved wrong though!!

So there it is, S/S ’13 more or less wrapped up.

What will you and won’t you be wearing?

Until next time…
